Q-Bic is an audio reactive projection piece for the urban space. The cubes rotate and respond to sounds from the environment. Documentation is from the Venice Lights event at the Venice Art Crawl on January 19th 2012.

It has been performed at the Melbourne Urban Screens Conference in Australia and at the opening of the Northbridge Piazza in Perth. Each incarnation of the project uses large urban screens to address local issues and questions. Like a traditional documentary, interviews are gathered and categorized. Unlike traditional film making the edit happens live. Interview segments and descriptive b-roll elements are triggered and mixed live creating an emergent montage for transitory audiences in public spaces.

Sentimental plastics is a site-specific urban screen project that was produced for the Wellington Urban Design Week IntensCity art project “INSite” in 2007. For the month long artistic residency, Morgan Barnard worked with local New Zealand designer Robert Appierdo to create an installation and live video performance about how plastic bags effect our lives. Interviews with residents about their use and emotional responses to plastic bags were collected and incorporated into a live cinema documentary. Workshops were conducted through out the month to show people how to turn plastic bags into a more durable and reusable material. Reusable shopping bags and video projection screens were produced during the workshops.

Documentation from the Expanded Media course at the Victoria University of Wellington School of Design. A new elective in the Media Program, Expanded Media challenged students with creating real-time, performance based short form videos. This documentation shows a few of the inspiring projects created for the final performance. Projects were created using VDMX, Quartz Composer and the Unity gaming engine.
